Stars to launch 'Latin Live Aid' Date posted: Thursday 14th December 2006 It looks like the Forgotten Continent campaign worked...After the 2005 awareness boom for trade issues and the Live Aid humanitarian effort for Africa, the stars and suits of Latin America take the initiative, announcing events as part of a campaign to help reduce regional poverty. The concerts will feature stars including Colombian singer Shakira and the Panamanian salsa singer, Ruben Blade and will take place in Buenos Aires, Miami and Los Angeles and other cities. The concerts are part of a wider foundation, the Latin America Solidarity Action Foundation - known as Alas or wings in Spanish. The foundation was launched on Tuesday, with the Colombian novelist, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, as honorary president.
